How do we experience, perceive and interact with space and in what way and extent do we feel an attachment to sites?

As a group we have decided that our practice as research project will be based in the chosen site of a launderette. We will be exploring personal perceptions and experiences within the site and how we can initiate movement that is influenced by the surrounding objects. We have two performers that have been given set instruction to carry out tasks in our site that explores the personal attachments that we posses with our clothing and how this can potentially expose inner boundaries.

We have recorded how these tasks have made our performers feel and we have given them questionnaires that will determine how our instructions have influenced emotions and movement initiation within our site. It is so far obvious that both performers have experienced the feelings of vulnerability, protection, restriction and exploration of personal perceptions. It is now understood that this site can mean something different to each person. for example, some may find a launderette a social environment however others may find the launderette a daunting experience in which they would not feel comfortable to leave their belongings in the possession of a stranger?
